Idle speed problem

My 2005 Yamaha F150 4S’s engine alarm goes off at times when I run at idle speed. I always cut it off and check the water intake; which, is clear. It does not happen always but very often. Is this a sign of water
pump going bad? any ideas?

First, if you’re motor is alarming repeatedly, I’d stop making it do that.

I’m not familiar with the variety of alarms that I’m sure are on that motor. I’d check the owners manual to see if it gives you any information to decipher the alarm(s). Is it temperature? Oil level? Other?

Likely is a cooling issue. But, running while it continues to alarm is the recipe for toasting it.

what year is the motor
what you are describing often happens with low oil pressure
the f150 has a plastic gear inside that will fail, and when it does, it sends plastic into the oil system causing it to clog.
you NEED to have that checked.
thats one of the only major issues those motors have, and it will cause the motor to blow up.

Thanks Chris V,

I have been away, I will bring it by for your winter special.

PalmerScott, thanks, but I do cut it off and let it cool before proceeding at normal speed.
