rr conductor,
I assume you are talking about Fin Coffey, aka Realfin on here. He and I were at The Citadel at the same time. I was in his wedding and I was honored to be a pall bearer for Fin. It’s still hard for me to accept that he is gone. Back in the day, Fin and I caught countless spade fish and black sea bass off the SC coast. I remember leaving Edisto Island and relying on the compass to get us to where we needed to be. After so many miles, if you’re off a little, you’ll miss your destination by a lot. We were pretty good at getting there and back…and getting back is important, too.
Let me know when you’re coming to Venice. I’ll do what I can to help you out.

I don’t know Harold personally, but having lived in Manning for 24 yrs. we have a great deal of mutual friends that have fished with him. You don’t catch limits every time, just like you don’t shoot a deer every time you sit a stand. I do know the guys that have been there are not game hogs, at least the ones I have been around. One that comes to mind was the ultimate in conserving game and instilled it in his boys .Unfortunately we lost him in Jan, a truly sad day for myself, all his family and friends.

As for me, I plan on going to Venice and catching some of those trout, I can catch them here but not like that.

Robert, I don’t have an operation. I don’t guide. Back before Katrina, I was invited to Venice by some friends who had a camp there. I loved the place and went back often. A few years ago, I bought into a camp there. Now, I go when I can and when the weather is good. I have a lot of friends come down from SC and fish with me there. So, it’s not “an operation.” It’s just some friends catching fish and having a great time. If you’ve never been to Venice, I’m sure you’d enjoy it…especially if you’re a fisherman. I’ve had a number of people ask me for recommendations about places to stay and recommendations on inshore guides and offshore guides. Over the years I have gotten to know quite a few of those folks and I’m glad to share what I know with anyone interested.

Thanks just curious. We are coming down in October with one of the guide/lodging operators Venice Sportsmans Lodge.I thought it might be yours. Stopping off at Chandeleur Islander on the way down for two days. I am into oral fishing. I just talk about it more than I get to go. Did you work at sporting goods/outfitters store in downtown Charleston? Ludens was the stores name.

The Venice Sportsmans Lodge is one houseboat away from mine. Richard Young manages the place. When he can get away, he fishes with me. Some of the photos I’ve posted have been on days Richard and I fished together. Let me know the dates you’re going to be there.

Most everyone is just jealous…lol…Including me. I’ll be building a home in Gulfport soon. Wives family left us there lot on 90

Here’s my take on it. If the DNR says you can keep em, then so be it. After all, the biologists know more about fish numbers than we do right? Nothing wrong with a fresh catch for dinner. Anything over the limit, is gluttonous, and anything under could mean you’re a poor fisherman! Ha!

Just Kidding on the poor fisherman part!
