Planning on going out on Thursday…2nd time ever…did ok the first time a couple weeks ago…except for the 7 hour, 10 mph slog back to C-Town.
Anyway, like everybody else, I’ve got the coords to the “ledge” “226 hole” “Edisto Banks” etc. Should those specific spots/depths be targeted? or do you…if on the way out…I see a trash line or dramatic temp/color break, just drop lines (even if its only at 180-200 feet) and troll those spots?
Thanks,
abe
thanks,
Thinking of going straight to Comanche reef and trolling out/around from there…then if no action, bottom fish Comanche. I don’t mind going out 50 miles, but if there’s action closer…all the better.

We have had good luck by ripping a butterfly jig ound the weedlines if the bite is slow, it tends to wind up the mahi and then we start bailing them off the back of the boat. start out with cut squid and ballyhoo chunks, then when they get finicky be sure to have a few livies sardines/cigar minnows or threadfins, or even small bar jacks and free line them out there, that usually gets them turned back on again. This trick has worked on slow days and been very, very, productive. Never think just because it is a weedline it is holding fish, some weedlines are just dead, and the larger mahi especially the bulls swim from weedline to weedline which is why we catch a lot 50 to 75 yards off the weedline.

Last trip to Miami I picked up one of those fish whistles @ Capt. Harry’s.
Too bad I lost it across the street @ the Gold Rush along with a big pile of $1’s.
Last trip back home to Miami I went in Captain Harry’s and thought I was gonna have to utilize my concealed carry permit when I turned down 2 hookers on the street just outside the fenced in area next to Capt Harry’s. I guess it made the pimp mad I wasn’t interested in his girls. Three things I can’t leave without doing when I go Home to Miami is
Eat at Shorty’s barbecue
Got to Capt.Harry’s
Go to Crook and Crook
The casino trips at hard rock on the way down and back don’t count, that is just an accidental bypass that seems to occur.

To stay on topic… like the others said, you are looking for any breaks, edges, structure, debris, and birds. Fish the spots that are “different” from the rest of the ocean. Breaks and edges can be bottom structure, or surface edges caused by currents and wind. And always trust the birds, they know where the fish are:wink:
And always remember if you see a turtle, keep looking in that area, i have found some of my best bottom spots while trolling and spotting turtles then “Bam” high relief on the sounder, turtles generally stay in the vicinity of live bottom areas.
