If you could...

If you could go back, and take all the money you’ve “wasted” on fishing (crappy reels, rods, etc.), what arsenal of rods and reels would you get to serve your fishing needs you use now?

I’ve never “wasted” any money on fishing tackle

That’s what I tell my wife, anyway

I personally love the Penn Spinfisher series for the money. 100% with Cracker Larry on the wife thing!!!

I javent wasted anything, buy something cheap and use it until its done. Buy something nice and use it forever

My father gave me some good advice…Never add up the cost of fishing. You can buy fish cheaper (sometimes) but you can’t buy memories.

Now, he also advised me to go down to Spruill Ave and get hooked on crack instead of buying a sportfishing boat. He claimed it would be cheaper in the long run

So take his advice with a grain of salt.

I guess I should rephrase this, if you could take any set of rods and reels now, for the purposes and species you are fishing for, what would your arsenal look like?

All shimano reels and shimano, star, st Croix, tfo, and Gloomis rods
Ci4 1000 with a GLoomis greenwater
Several various shimano Sahara or symetres in a 2-3k size with various fast or Xfast action and mediun power
A couple 4k Sahara’s on ugly stik’s or a basic shimano rod
A few big 7-8k baitrunners and a TLD 15 for shark/tarpon/reds
Interesting question!

What I use now inshore. Shimano Spheros reels on 7foot Loomis GL2 extra fast action rods. When I was real young I remember my uncle telling me “we are too poor to buy cheap” The longer I live the more true I find this to be in many facets of life.

okay okay I wouldnt mind having a few Stellas to throw around too

Sounds like we’re in the same boat (I don’t think this is a pun). I’m Shimano Stradic/Curados on Loomis rods for artifical lures. Ambassadeur 5500’s on All Stars and Loomis for bait fishing inshore and nearshore. I’ve used the same six Stradics on Loomis Walleye Series rods for 4 years of tournament bass fishing and 11 years of guiding (or 12, I’m getting senile) and they are still sewing machines (thanks to Haddrell’s). My wife told me years ago, “Very few people are blessed with a passion. If you are, you should afford yourself the best equipment to pursue your passion”. 'Course I’m blessed to have my wife. Bob

I think for my inshore setups I would take some battle 3000’s on some st croix rods for artificials, some cardiff 3000 on ugly sticks for bait fishing, a shimano baitrunner 8000D on a shimano rod for big reds, and then a tld 15 or two on some ugly sticks for sharks and tarpon
