Good buddy owned a small 31 foot sporty, he is in the marine business and worked his a$$ off just trying to keep it up.
Think long and hard about something you are going to leave in the saltwater 365 days a year. Not to mention unless you buy a fixer upper you are going to drop some serious coin on this plus all the slip and annual upkeep.
You really should look at something like a 33 Freeman before pulling the trigger on a 30ish foot sporty.
Would be interested to hear your thoughts on why a sporty is better than a big CC like the freeman. Think similar usage not go fast balls to the wall Center console with barking props.
Don’t fool yourself thinking you are going to sleep in the v birth with the AC on running 35 knots in a 30-35 foot sporty.
Set the trap boys, we going to pass through them again!!
I have never ridden on a Freeman, but from what you guys say, its great. That’s awesome, but unless he is looking to drop $230k??, There are a lot of great deals on pocket sportfishers for a lot south of that. Non-fixer uppers.
I’d say that he is having a different conversation of “value and comfort.”
Additionally, an AC on boat like my convertible isn’t for the captain ever. He

Carolina boat in charter boat finish with single screw. No frills, no bells and whistles. Just dependable motor and good electronics, epirb and SeaTow.

My good buddy has a 27 tides express. It’s a lot of boat for 27’.
2003 Albe express 33 ft in Gtown…135K
Just painted over my teak, 33’ Pace Express twin cat 3116,
diver scrapes the bottom every month $57.50 also checks the zincs and replaces as needed . bottom paint myself and save big $ and it’s done right but you still have to go to a yard for a haulout which isn’t cheap and cost per day for storage while in the yard is high you don’t want to take your time on repairs. $450/ month at CHM for dockage + $25 electric + enviro fee ( I don’t remember that cost it may be in the $25) $4.25 fuel cost (sw banks and back 180 gal x 4.25=$760)
any question just ask.
Jeff
30-40 foot sportfishers is a good part what keeps me employed. I have been on most the production 32-35’ boats out there one stands out…Carolina Classic. They are second to none on ride, reliability/robustness of the systems, and the strength of the hull. Additionally, you will not find anyone who cares more about their customers.

Thanks for starting this thread.
Want to go in together? We can put a nice big Clemson tiger paw on the side.
Natural chum?
No thanks, I think I have a partner lined up…and he’s no clemson fan! [:0]
Partners are for dancing…
Express or convertible? Narrow the parameters you have given us…up to 35’ brings dozens of boats to my mind. When you say “relatively inexpensive”, what do you mean? Inexpensive to get in to, operate, or both?
Sounds like you are just kicking the idea around right now. Get back to us once you have made a decision on what you really want to do.
“Never argue with an idiot…he will drag you down to his level and beat you with experience.”
20 to 23 knots doesn’t sound bad until it is less than one foot and you feel like you are going backwards. 3 hours to the gth…
When it is rough it is not bad but when it is slick and bay boats ate passing you offshore it sucks.
AC is nice for the crew though

My 2 cents worth,Look,Look,Look, and then sea-trial what you like.Go to the in water boat shows,Ft–laud,Annapolis Oct.3-6,etc.Get a survey on any sportfish you may be considering!!I have worked or lived on many,46Bertram,46Hatteras,60Egg-Harbor,62Stryker,44Guthrie,40Merrit,now there’s a nice Boat for-ya,42Post,36Chris-craft,etc.
They are all nice have good and bad points, but they all take work, money, and need to be used.So find one you like get it,take care of it and go,and don’t look back!!!

At $4.25 a gallon It is only $17,000 to fill her up!
You will have to keep your truck in 4lo to pull it… 195K pounds may be tough on the tranny.
