DolphinD and myself made the trip this past week up for the kayak division and round 2 of the Atlantic division. We got up there Friday morning and started prefishing out of Trails End. We got out there and were quite excited by the structure we could see at low tide. However the area turned out to be quite the bust. We managed one small trout and a small blue fish in an area that seemed like it should have been covered in fish. We covered several miles and saw only one red. Also my PA was leaking quite bad and we could not find a leak to fix it. I was having to drain my boat about every two hours of up to 20 gallons of water. I also managed to crack my mirage drive and was forced to use it the rest of thr trip in a setting that was way to long for me.
We packed up around noon and checked out a local paddle shop for some advise. After talking to them we headed out to a place that I think was called River Front Park on the Cape Fear River. Once again the place looked fishy as could be with haden all over the place but we ended up having very little luck there too. I managed one 15" trout and a nice size flounder and we lost about half a dozen soft plastics a peice to a unbelievable amount of 5 to 7 inch blue fish. The next morning we went back out there around 545 to try and see if we could have some better luck on the falling tide. I fished top water for almost 2 and a half hours with just a couple of blow ups. I did manage one nice 3 or 4 pound spanish and another small blue fish but that was it. On the way back in the area we were in was about 300 yards wide and we could have walked across the whole way bc it was at best 2 and a half feet deep on a featureless sandy bottom. The haden were the thickest i have ever seen. As far as we could see in either direction for miles there seemed to billions of them. It was the craziest thing.
We then packed up around 1030 and headed to another location. This area at first look did not seem to be much better but about 200 or 300 yards into our
