Been trying to fix this ignition problem. . .first the motor ignition was getting no power at all(could still trim/tilt from throttle, just wouldn’t start to crank). I trouble shooted and basically connected anything I could. Now the motor is trying to crank when I only turn the ignition to “on”. It keeps trying to crank itself even when the motor is running. Either the motor has no cranking power at all. . or it starts and continues to try and crank while just in the “on” postion and keeps trying to crank while the motor is running. Any ideas or remedies?, it seems like I’ve tried everything.

I’m not expert but it sounds like you crossed a wire somewhere.

Yep. (w/ a sense of humor) You may need to fire your mechanic.
Seriously, though, 'sounds like you crossed something up. Get a good manual. Back up and start tracing wires. Obviously, those that go to the starter solenoid and such would be a good place to start.

thanks for the help. .I did nothing to the wires in the motor so I don’t believe wires in the motor to be the problem. However, maybe the solenoid starter is stuck in the on position and could use some grease/wd40?
Therefore the problem should be with the wires in the console. I’ve borrowed a voltage meter and will be troubleshooting to see where I’ve crossed these wires up. Trying to make it shrimping tonight.

I would replace the keyswitch. If yoy feel like troubleshooting it, it is easy to ohm out the connections.
Disconnect the wires making note of which color wire goes to which connection on the back side of the switch. In the on/run position, you should have continuity between the red wire connection(positive from battery) and the purple wire connection (ignition). In the start/crank position you should have continuity between red and purple as before and also between the red and the yellow/red wire connection (crank circuit). If you have continuity between red and yellow/red in the on/run position the switch is the problem. You will probably have to cycle the keyswitch to get the problem to occur since it is intermittent.

definately sounds like you crossed up the wires at teh key switch
best guess…
solenoid wire is mixed with the purple wire

Chris, you seem to have an internet-turretts syndrom. You appear to be involuntarily repeating, ‘What motor?’
