2004 Yamaha- left the landing, gets up on a plane runs like a champ, get to first spot a mile a way, sit for twenty minutes. After that, after fast idle it will bog down and shut off attempting to move. Shuts off after that and starts right back up with fast idle as if the bowls are full. I can feather the throttle and eventually get it going full. Runs great at 3/4ths throttle all the way to full open. It’s the jumping up on plane that it bogs down and shuts off. I have cleaned carbs, new fuel. I want to blame it on lack of use. Starts fine. Help anyone? Its like once it gets hot after running and sits is when I have the problems. Off the trailer it is good.
im gonna say clean the carbs better, or worst case ur losing compression after it warms up

Check the wire screen where it attaches to the motor. Mine was doing the same thing and I had a bunch of trash in that screen.

Clogged fuel filter somewhere. As long as u don’t pull a lot o fuel, it works.

If that motor has a VST my guess would be that the screen on the inlet of the hp fuel pump is clogged.

Is it fast idle because its running lean because of lack of fuel? Sounds like its starving for fuel.

I am thinking about my 200VMAX and the 02 sensor issues. If no O2 sensor then I like the fuel issues as suggested, filters, pumps etc.

I had similar symptoms on my 04’ 150 Yamamha 2 stroke a couple weeks ago. I took a file and cleaned up corrosion on battery post and wire leads and it solved the problem.
Are your gauges on your dash bouncing back and forth while the engine is acting up? Mine would while I trimmed the motor.

Thanks for all the tips. I have cleaned the carbs myself. Maybe I didn’t do a good enough job. It is simply a 50 on the back of a 16 footer.I hope to get more time this weekend to work on it. I am going to trace the fuel lines and clean everything again. Thanks everybody.
same thing happened to me last year. Checked everything. happened to check my battery. Water was low. filled it up and ran just fine
