I shared your post on FB thru Kris De. Did you find Riley yet?
Monday night , 1/14/2013 at about 10:00pm, Riley crawled up in my wife’s lap and passed away. Totally unexpected. We think that he may have had a heart attack. The life was sucked out of our house that night. I thank the Lord above for 8 wonderful years with him. We miss him dearly…

For inshore, you don’t need a depth sounder/fish finder. You can see the structure that holds fish on every mid to low tide. Fish shallow, on structure, during incoming tide. At dawn and dusk, fish the edge of the grass with topwater (although that will be slow this time of year). Hold onto your boat; like Penny said, you won’t be able to replace it for what you are asking. Fish for the enjoyment of fishing, or find another hobby.

Slide your line through a 1/4 oz bullet weight and tie it to your hook. Stab a piece of cut Mullett with said hook, throw it against a grass line and catch some (**() fish already!

I feel your pain Dustin. I’m kinda new to this saltwater thing (5 years) and still have not caught a grouper. That’s mainly because I have never went on a charter and haven’t found a spot for 'em on my own yet. Just caught my 1st red over the slot and first cobia this past summer and it’s not because I haven’t tried those past 4 years. It is aggrevating hearing all the “greatest day on the water” stories when you just got skunked the same day, but hang in there man. I’m hoping if I just keep at long enough I’ll have one of those “greatest day” stories to tell. I think it’s going to cost a lot in gas money first though.

Life Is Good…Gotta Love It!!!
We all feel your pain. I’ve been fishing here for 7 years. Offshore, piers and recently kayak fishing inshore. I grew up on the Cheasapeake chasing stripers and blues. It took me about 20 years to get good at it. And then I moved here to start all over again. I started on the piers and docks, bought then sold a nearshore boat. And, this past summer bought a fishing kayak. NOTHING is more challenging than fishing inshore at this time a year. In the summer and fall I had some success. But recently, it’s been frustrating. Sure the experienced anglers catch a few fish here and there. But they have paid their dues. The greatest thing about this forum is there are good people willing to help you learn. Listen to them. Try a few new things. Take some notes on tides, temps. water clarity etc. Eventually you start to see paterns. It doesn’t happen overnight. Fishing is challenging and can be frustrating. But thats why we love it. Dropping a line, counting to 10, and reeling up a 11" black sea bass gets old after 5 min. It’s that challenge and uncertainty that makes fishing fun and catching something all that more rewarding. Hang in there. You aren’t the only one in the proverbial boat.
If two wrongs don’t make a right, try three.
