Nope, I didn’t miss it. Saw news of it before the discounts hit, but you’d have to be crazy to buy one. I suppose if you just wanted a touchscreen web browser it may have been on OK buy, but they wouldn’t be good for much else.

HP is ditching hardware development for WebOS a mere month or so after the Touchpad hit the market. The Touchpad and all the new WebOS phones have been discontinued. This means no more direct support or software upgrades. They’re being discounted because they’re essentially worthless.

HP is saying that WebOS will continue as a licensed platform for other manufacturers to use with their own hardware, but I really don’t see that happening with most potential tablet makers already committed to Android. A mobile device is defined by its operating system, and a mobile OS is only as good as the ecosystem that surrounds it these days - the apps and so forth available for the operating system. With HP ceasing development of WebOS hardware and no one showing much interest in licensing the OS to use with their own hardware, it will be impossible for an ecosystem to develop around the platform since no developers are going to want to waste their time producing software for an operating system that has no apparent future.

that’s ok, all I wanted was a touchscreen web browser…
