I use good quality freezer bags. Fill a four cup container (one quart) nearly full with clean tails, fill with ice water, pour into the freezer bag. Remove all the air and seal. They will keep like fresh for a year. Much less expensive than containers if you’re going to catch many. I put up 150 lbs or more a year for the past 35 years.
Thanks for sharing all of the different methods of keeping shrimp fresh.
Update: We filled a 32 quart cooler again on Tuesday and Wednesday night. The shrimp were THICK (horn of net was full of shrimp)and we threw back more than we kept. In two weeks we won’t be throwing back anything!

When you said jars I thought you meant glass. I use plastic freeze containers filling them to about 1/4 inch from top. I pour in cold water and fill to almost cover shrimp and then place uncovered in freezer overnight. When frozen through I finish filling with water to top and place on lid and put back in freezer. This method keeps the shrimp from floating to the top and puts an ice cap over them to seal. A little extra work but no freezer burn and have kept 2 years and still OK. I reuse the containers from year to year; they stack nicely and don’t puncture like baggies.
that will keep them longer and fresher than any other method that I know of.
rain will help the growth, why I don’t know, but when the big ditch looks like coke they will move out to deeper water. They will come right back, but they need salt.
