Are fish less than 21 inches going be accepted at the scales like last year with us fishing under the 5-and-done law? I hope it’s not something our team needs to worry about, but everyone needs to know.

For those of you that may not know, Liz Sineath is one of our tournament directors and her handle is “motleyfan81”. Her post above constitutes “alternative lengths and limits” being “announced by the tournament director/s prior to competition” as spelled out in our tournament rules.
Announcing a rule and deciding what the rule will be is two different matters… tournament directors don’t make the rules, they conduct the tournaments according to rules made by the club…

“An entrant may possess the legal limit for the body of water fished during a tournament, but may weigh-in no more than the maximum number of fish allowed in the tournament. Teams will generally be allowed to weigh their 2 largest fish with a 21-inch minimum length unless alternative lengths and limits are announced by the tournament director/s prior to competition. Only fish of the genus Morone or hybridized crosses of the genus Morone can be weighed for tournament competition. All fish weighed must measure a minimum of 21 inches total length with the fish’s mouth closed. In the event a team brings a fish of less than 21 inches to the official scales, that fish and the team’s biggest fish will be disqualified. Alternate fish species and lengths may be weighed for special events as announced by the tournament director(s) prior to competition.”
The above is copied and pasted from our current tournament rules. It looks to me like the procedure was followed properly. If you have a problem with the wording, you know very well how to go about proposing a change.
Fishing is supposed to be fun. I gave up competitive bass fishing partly due to the fact that there was too much complaining, fussing, etc. and partly due to the fact that it is WORK and we were fishing for a lot more money than our club tournaments pay (plus I wasn’t very good at it). It got to where it wasn’t fun. Winning is not why I fish our club tournaments. I really enjoy fishing and fishing in our club tournaments. I wish I could fish them all. I don’t want it to get to the point where it’s not fun anymore.

Well said Bowhunter.

I agree also… Enough of all this, especially in a public forum! I asked a simple question that warranted a simple answer. There is nothing controversial here… Good fishing to all on Saturday! I agree Charles. Let’s fish, have fun, and move on!

Why would I change the rule? I’m the one who wrote it…Do what you want… Don’t let something like poor planning be an obstacle. We can fix everything by just changing the name of the MSC Constitution and By-laws to MSC Suggested Practices. Apparently Lawcrusher works pretty good for you too Rick…lol I’m not surprised no one else wants to step out in front of the firing squad with an opinion. Carry on…

I agree Bowhunter…
It is fun winning, but its also fun competing and knowing that you can hold your own against some of the best on Lake Murray.
Its also great seeing everyone at the weigh-ins and talking about their days.
See yall tomorrow.
