I would like some guidance on how to tie a loop to attached a planer about 60 to 80 feet from leader. --detach planner and wind on-- primarily for dropping a wahoo bait-- I’ve seen these and I’m guessing you use a waxed string of sorts… thanks in advance …T
Youtube has some good options and shows you how. If not concerned about cut-offs from wahoo trying to eat the planer, use hollow core and serve it in. A planer puts a ton of stress on your gear and I doubt you can do it with waxed loops.
You can splice in loops if you are using hollow-core spectra mainline or have hollow core put onto the end of your solid core spectra mainline.
You could add 150-200lb mono to the end of braid mainline if you would rather use crimps to make loops in the system to clip the planer bridle into. Connect the short piece of mono to the spectra using a reverse albright knot or similar.
Using 49 strand cable and snaps as your bridle will help protect against bite-offs when a hoo hits the planer.
Using crimps and mono for your loops is easiest, but you will have to have bigger wind on guides than if you simply put loops into your braid. You can use longline clips to clip the planer to the mono without having any loops if you still want to use mono but not have the bulky loops.
Splicing is the best way to put loops into your braid, but dropper loop knots will work as well.
Sorry I am all over the place here, but there are many different ways to skin this cat. Hope this helps a little.
