Input/Advice on Subwoofer brand/location etc...

As my signature states I have a 2008 Keywest Bluewater and am thinking about outfitting it with a sub. I am thinking of either going with a Bazooka Bass Tube and mounting it in the T-Top or going with a regular sub and mounting it under the retractable seat on the front side of the console…

Anyone have experience with the Bazooka Bass Tubes mounted in the T-Top? I have seen several boats w them over the yrs but to me its seems to defeat the purpose. Bass (feel free to correct me if Im wrong) works best when it has something to bounce around or reflect of of, and so Id think that a sub mounted in a T-Top would not be have the reflectivity that it sub should have to create good bass. I like how they looked mounted, but just am unsure of the quality of the sound produced.

Right now Im leaning more towards the mounting of the JBL MPS1000 under the seat on the front side of the console. Anyone with any experience w this sub? I am leaning towards this one simply because my 4 speakers and cd player now are JBl.

I am open to any suggestions and advice here. Listed above are just the two spots Ive thought of, but if anyone knows anywhere better to mount it or better products I am open ears, or eyes rather. Thanks.

Matt

You need to talk to havannahdaydream on here, hes a boat audio master.

The Bazooka will sound crappy if you put it in an open space. Youre correct on the “reflection”. I think its like 1 cubic foot of space sounds best.

Sound wise, you have to realize that putting it under the front seat will likely vibrate something in there (hatch, trim piece, etc) and will force you to turn it down. Often, you can utilize the hollow space in the hull and put a speaker in the gunnel, or the back or something. Dont forget, you will need an amp as well.

Ive got an old bazooka tube and amp if you want to hook it up and hear what it sounds like in different places. Just make sure you dont have a loud bass in your boat unless youve got a lot of women in bikinis riding with you.

Thanks. Haha, yea the bass is definately for the non fishing days and is to help entice the girls into dancing on the bow. Personally, Im not a big bass kinda guy, but the ladies love it, and I love what the ladies love come Regatta time and days like that.

given the resonance of a boat hull consider multiple small speakers and plenty of power for less distortion. if u add a sub to an existing fiberglass panel u may need to add a layer of wood inside for strengthening. if u don’t it could sound like poop! i once installed 28 6" speakers in a 19’ center console. not suggesting anything that extreme but the point is, it sounded like he had multiple subs for sure yet he had none. good luck and feel free to ask me any questions. installer 22 yrs

I was thinking about getting the 8"sub that had the amp built in.(JL Audio or JBL can’t remember)what about mounting it inside the console with the built-in insulate cooler as backing . I have the same setup as mentioned above. I am gonna add 4 more of the same speakers or 2 of the infinity 6x9’s with an amp. Do you think the sub will sound alright inside the console or do I need to mount it outside?
