input on 8 wts

In the market for a new rod (■■■■ screen door got the better of me), I am replacing a Cabela’s FT which I liked. I am experienced caster , tend to favor a faster action rod. Test casting in Columbia is difficult. Fish for reds/trout, stripers and Black bass. I am considering TFO TiCrx, Sage launch, and LL bean orion. Also have access to an Orvis Trident TLS Tip flex that I am going to try out this week. Any input appreciated.

I have the TiCrx in a 9wt and I’m happy with it. The $25 no fault warranty is tough to beat, also!

That being said, I would not buy a rod that I hadn’t cast yet.

Pillage and plunder with a 9wt and a fist full of clousers.

I have the TiCrX in 6,7, and 9wt. Love the rods for the price.

I have a March Brown 8wt and LOVE it… for a six peice rod it casts like a 2 peice and it is perfect for travel… I am also a huge fan of St. Croix… I have a 7wt Reign, (they discontinued the model but you can sill find them pretty cheap,) here with me and love it as well… I haven’t heard anything good about LL Bean rods and I also have an Orvis 8wt that I am not too thrilled with but I am going to give it another shot when I get home, since I now have a much better cast  I have a feelin it was me not the rod :wink::stuck_out_tongue: I have never casted a TiCrX or heavier TFO rods, but I hear a lot fo good stuff about them. I did get to play wiht a TFO 3wt over here and for the tinly little toothpick it was, it was a very nice casting rod… I am kinda spolied now with the 8 and 7wts… even my 6wt feels like it’s lost in my hand when I pick it up

sage xi2. an amazing rod. cast one and you’ll be hooked. i used to get a huge deal on winston and scott etc rods but when i cast the xi2 for the first time, it was like losing virginity brudda. im serious. i paid full price for it and lost a live in girlfriend who i told i was broke. well the reciept busted me. she was the worst anyway. sorry, getting sidetracked, XI2- Ferrari fast

I love the quote… " my greatest fear is my wife will sell all my fishing gear when I die for what I told her I paid for it…" I snapped the tip off my March Brownb 8wt… They are sending me a new one though  I have heard a lot of good stuff about Sage rods… and ScottyD is my Yoda when it comes to fly fishin

Flats, I live in Chapin and have an xi2 and TFO ticr in 8wt. if you want to cast them before you buy. Mike

Thanks Fellas,
appreciate the input. Mike H thanks, I may take you up on that, going to cast that Orvis Trident TLS tomorrow, see how it feels with a clouser. Had a cool experience yesterday, went into local tackle shop @ lunch, thought they might have the TFO—No dice. They fly rod selection is very limited, but I end up in the parking lot with a 6wt Diamondback Flawless ( they didn’t have an 8 in stock)> The thing is a cannon @ very reasonable price. I was so impressed with this rod— a rod I had ever even considered. Scotty, have never tried a Sage but have obviously heard good things. The Xi2 may be a bit more than I want to spend, but I’ve been reading some good things on the Flight and may try to get my hands on one before I make a decision.

Sage Xi2, z-axis, TCR, and the TCX. These are all in the sage line. I fished TFO and Loomis for awhile but once I went sage…enough said!

Take bootsy up on that if he will let it go at a good price. I love the old GLX classics. I really like the Pro1s in higher weights though.

The TFOs are great for the money as well.

Sage. I have the XP, which they don’t make anymore.

Flatsfeet,

Search around for info on Dan Craft FT blanks. I have been using them for a few years now and absolutely love them. Very fast rod with a soft tip…and definitely not a broom stick. It is a joy to cast.

Chris

Thanks again fellas, let you know the final outcome
