Inshore Fishing for Reds and Trout Advice

I will be renting a boat from the AFB to do some fishing with my dad while he’s in town. I was planning on launching the boat down at the folly river ramp and fishing the river and creeks around there. I’m not very experienced with inshore fishing (rented a boat last winter and fished same area with no luck) and was going to try around the docks and creek inlets. For bait, would you recommend live shrimp under a slip bobber or a carolina rig with cut mullet or maybe halved blue crab. I’ve read about using jigs with soft plastics but really don’t have any experience with it. Any advice on setups and bait would be much appreciated.

can’t help you with the folly river…and I haven’t been out fishing in months so can’t give you any current advice. Cut mullet on a carolina rig always seems to work for me, if you’re in the right spot. But, I will offer condolences on the Cubs! I was rooting for them to beat the mets. I hate the mets!

Yea that was a tough loss in the NLCS but I think they’ll be back in the next couple years. Glad the Royals are beating the mets.

Thanks for the info on the cut mullet. Hoping to have good weather and luck tomorrow.

I fish on the opposite end of the peninsula. However, to keep it simple, get some of the big popping corks, cajun thunder, and use a 2/0-3/0 circle hook with live mullet/shrimp or even artificial DOA shrimp.
Carolina rig with live/cut mullet on the bottom will also entice some bites. Blue crab is a winner for big reds.

Everyone will have a bit of a different opinion, but these are some easy and straightforward tips.

Low tide will give you the easiest chance at finding fish. Docks, oyster beds, creeks with moving water.
