Inshore fishing lines...... opinions

Looking for opinions/experiences on inshore fishing lines. Time for me to re-spool, my line’s getting old lol.

I’m generally using these rods tossing trout jigs, popping corks, and the occasional bottom rig (carolina rig).

Normally I’d go with 10lb Trilene XL (or, Trilene Big Game if I’m just being cheap). The XL does cast a bit better, I think, but otherwise I’ve never really found much of a difference between them.

Anyone using Momoi or Triplefish for inshore, throwing jigs?

I never have good luck with braids on spinning reels. I end up with line twist. Swivels do help though.

Then again I’ve never tried a 10-12lb braid. Maybe indeed it is time.

Yo Matt, what are you throwing, artificials are live bait ??

Braid is a great option for redfish and around the structure we have around here. Some things to help you in manually close your bail on a spinning rod. When you just start reeling it will actually twist your line before the bail engages and will cause line twist. Swivels help especially when you have a lure like a spoon that will spin around. Also a long rod that makes casting easier will help. I used to use 20 or 30 pound braid and very rarely had wind knots due to line twist. the biggest piece of advice is to have it spooled at a shop where they have the machine, this will ensure tight even winding and that will help a lot. Eventually your line will loosen up and you can take pretty good sized weight, 2oz or so, tie it to the end and just let the line spool out behind the boat, once you get way down on the spool reel it back up and this will let some of the twist out and allow you to get a nice tight wrap again.

I use have been using Spiderwire braid for the last 2 years and really like it. Have not used PowerPro so can’t compare.

moi moi diamond braid… blue line and holds its color much better than power pro

If bait fishing mono is fine. If casting a lot I like to use 20lb. braid, I used to use 30lb. but since I have moved down I have increased casting distance a lot.

I’m so salt life I sued google earth for giving away all of my fishing spot’s.

OK folks you have me convinced. I’ll try the diamond braid. I like Haddrels since they can spool me up nicely.

I am tossing, mostly, trout jigs but the occasional day I’ll fish bait. I almost always use a 20-25# fluorocarbon leader.

I have found if you put too heavy braid onto too small of a reel wind knots can become an issue. that seaguar is really good too. not cheap though.

I use 10 lb green power pro braid. I’d stay away from the “slick” variety. I’ve bad it break repeatedly when the regular kind wouldn’t. The regular is much more invisible in the water too.
