Hit the creek Saturday morning despite it being colder and windier than expected. Weatherman called for 70+ degrees and 10mph winds where in actuality it was closer to 50 degrees and 15-20mph sustained. I fished the last of incoming tide and the first 2 hours of the falling tide.
Took the kayak and ventured to a favored spot and backed into the grass to hide from the wind. I came armed with Z-Man Sexy Mullet, Trout Eyes, a dozen mud minnows and some topwater plugs. Using 2 rods, one with a minnow rigged on the bottom and the other working the Sexy Mullet. First bite was a 13-14inch trout on the sexy mullet. Didn’t waste any time with a photo, released and swam away strong. Still on incoming tide at this point. Next fish wouldn’t happen until 2 hours later on the falling tide. I had a mud minnow under a popping cork when a redfish smashed the line, about 12-13 inches, released. Wasn’t getting any more action on the minnows and after about 20 minutes went back to working the sexy mullet. That little mullet on the trout eye produced 3 more fish! 2 more reds averaging 12-14 inches and a 10-11 inch flounder, all released. Full disclosure: ALL GUESSES ON LENGTH BECAUSE I LEFT MY RULER AT HOME. And I know the “No Pics or it didn’t happen” rule but I’m using a work computer right now and the pics are on personal cell. Morally conflicted to connect the two…
Either way it was my first inshore slam which I’m pretty excited about. It was a good morning despite the weather and a good way to start the weekend.
Hope you all had a Happy Easter
