Redfish bite was great this past Sunday with nearly perfect conditions. I fished for a couple of hours after the morning low tide and the water was clear and flat. Water temp was 50 to 55 depending on depth and tide. You could see the fish moving around from a long way off which made it easy to find schools along the banks of the Wando. I found big schools on every shallow flat I checked. I managed to get a dozen fish (all over slot) into the boat on gulp penny shrimp, doa shrimp, and cut mullet. Everything was fished on the bottom on a jig head or carolina rig. I let the gulp and cut mullet sit and moved the doa very slowly.
I did manage to spear or foul hook one big red with a lucky cast. I was tossing the doa into a fishy looking spot and had an immediate hook-up on a big red. When I got it in the boat I couldn’t believe the hook held in the anal fin. It was a big fish (close to 15#) and the fight lasted a minute or so!
