Inshore Trolling Part dos

Inshore Trolling is actually pretty fun and relaxing, but also productive. I fished high tied falling in less than eight foot of water.

The baits, 1/8th, 1/8th, 1/4qtr
I ended up just running 2 rods, I tried three today but it was to much for the small boat and small creek.

He fought just like a mahi, ran across the spread twice, jump liked ten times doing flips and then went deep at the boat.

I think I ended up 9 of ten for these. I lost a big one around 20 incher because he to wanted to show his acrobatics about the third or fourth jump and flip he got away.

One for one on these and this one had a lot of energy like the other guys did. No jumps but he pulled some line.

Heading back with just the trolling motor I heard and saw some good blow ups but they were where the grass lines folded over and layed down into the creek.

Back at the landing, later then I wanted to be because I was waiting on the call from someone who borrowed my car. Well they didn’t call but did show up at the landing. I didn’t get stuck but I did have a heck of a time getting my boat to trailer because of a loose bunk. With no tools I was forced to put it on the trailer with the bunk flipped over. Good thing she’s not a looker because I definitely put a few beauty marks on her.

Very productive indeed! Good job! Sounds like it’s time for some trailer maintenance!

Great report and great photos! Thanks, 40.

What river/area were you fishing?

Were you trolling the top of the water column or bumping the bottom?

Glad you didn’t repeat the last pullout trouble. You need some trouteye jigs?

I fished from like 5 something to 8 in the same area as last time. It’s a small area and it already gets a good bit of fishing pressure. I don’t want to name the area out of respect to others who fish the area. I think part of why it’s effective is it’s not that wide of a creek so in some areas in the creek is like 12 ft wide and my baits are like 3ft of the edges and 6ft apart so I’m covering a lot of the area then. In the wider parts I will target areas like channels and structure. Any area you know holds trout will be a good area to give it a try. A buddy use to troll folly a few spots at folly and do pretty good.

I do occasionally bump bottom and that’s why I troll jigs instead of hard baits with trebs, along with hitting the grass pretty often. I try to get one in each part of the water column, lower, mid, and upper. I use the size and bounancy of the bait to achieve that. 1/4 was to heavy and ended up getting snagged even with the larger paddle tail. When I hit bottom I speed up to pull the baits up and slow down when I hit a deep pocket or go into a heavy current line. I’m still trying to dial it in but I’m getting there. I think if I had 4 rods rigged with 2 different weights it would be the most effective. That way when I go with the current I can go lighter and when against the current a little heavier. But so far and 1/8th is good for the 4 to 8ft range. I pulled one paddle tail that wasn’t a zman and it ran up top for some reason and I pulled it like that for a while and caught a trout on both other jigs, it didn’t get a hit.

Trout eyes are very good jigs and work well I just usually fish lighter than 3/16 when I’m throwing a jig and I don’t think they make a 1/8th or 1/16th but I haven’t bought them in a while. What I need is some more zmans, I’m on my last 1 of both the smaller ones. Zmans can stand up to crabs, flounder, bluefish.

My favorite jigs are lucky strike they use gamakatsu hooks that have small Barb’s so they do less damage to the fish. They’re strong and t
