I just purchased an 80lb thrust Minn Kota trolling motor for my boat and am going to install it this weekend. Does anyone have any advice on what size in line fuse/breaker I should install?

The paperwork should give you a good idea of what is recomended, although there would be factors they couldn’t foresee in every install. What distance will you be running power and what kind of amprage does the motor draw?
Personally, I would run 8AWG stranded wire from the battery to the motor. I have various sizes of enviromental heat shrink to cover your lugs if you are interested. I probabaly have 8awg non insulated lugs as well. Let me know if you need them and I will search my stash this evening.

I installed a 24v 70lb Minn Kota in late spring and used a 60amp breaker from Minn Kota.
I purchased my setup from trollingmotors.net and the suggested breaker was the 60amp Minn Kota. Here is the link: http://www.trollingmotors.net/mkr19-circuit-breaker
Additionally, if you need custom wires for your setup I highly recommend Greg’s Marine Wire supply. The wires are not cheap but they are rated for the marine environment and quality of cable build is excellent.
Let me know if you have any more specific questions. I installed/mounted the batteries and trolling motor with the help of a buddy.

i have 50 and if you go 6ga or larger, you have to buy the marinco plug w/ adapter
also if you have the $, consider a quick detach mount, makes life easier when you service it or shrimp season
Just did this exact same thing a few weeks ago w same size motor. I already had the 50 amp one from my old motor. The 50 amp one is good for older motors but a brand new one will need a 60. I tried the 50 and had to reset every 5 min. It got old fast! Unless you want to reset it all the time get the 60. So you need this one http://store.minnkotamotors.com/products/392929/Circuit_Breaker.

Thanks guys. I was thinking 60 amp. I was looking at the Minn Kota MKR19 online for $40 - same one you pointed out Jimmy. West Marine had a different make, looked the same with 60 amp and it was @ $60. I’ll order the Minn Kota, can always install it afterwards when it arrives
PitViper - thanks for the generous offer! I think I may have all I need as far as wiring goes, but I’ll hit you up with a PM if I need it.
I’ll check out Greg’s, thanks SuperDave
JMH, yeah - I bought the quick release bracket - absolutely worth the money
