Instrument panel wiring

So I just purchased a 2005 sailfish 236 with a 2021 motor and newer electronics and a newer switch panel. However, the wiring from the old electronics are nested in with all the new wiring so the area in the console looks like a nest. luckily you can comfortably stand in the console and fix this, but i don’t want to do the work. Is there a local company or “guy” that would straighten our the wiring and make it look decent? new wire marine only sells the panels etc…

@23sailfish had that boat for years, he’ll likely be along shortly with some good intel

Send me a couple pictures of what you’re looking at and I may be able to help. Are you saying the old wiring was left in there when the new wiring was added?

yes it appears so. and the distribution blocks for positive and negatives are corroded and need cleaned up. it just looks horrible.
i’ll take pics when i get home from work.

I know a young man that might just want to take on that project depending on how much needs to be done.

Send me your number again and ill get you in touch.

The wiring on the 236 is easily accessible on the one end inside the head. The end you can’t see is the pain! I think mine had two live well pumps, a salt wash down, and a fresh water wash down plus 2 bildge pumps. There’s a lot in that small area for a 23 footer.

I bought a new 236 back in 05 and fished the fool out of that boat. You won’t be disappointed, she’ll handle some slop.

Does everything work right now or do you have some electrical issues?

I still had your number so I sent you a message. Assuming it’s still the same.

@23sailfish your private messaging doesn’t allow me to contact you.

@rapchizzle i forgot to take pics. i’ll do today.

Im also interested in some pics. But, if these guys here dont get you the help you need, try these guys here.

They have done right by me so far! Quick turnaround too.

Good luck!

I got your text. Once they see pictures of it, they’ll reach out. Boat wiring is subjective it seems. I’m in the"if it ain’t broke don’t fix it" category. Some people want to just have it all redone to not worry about it for a long while.
It depends what side you land on as to how much you’ll spend.

I’d get @Rapchizzle to do it

Look at all the stuff he’s done, plus you’d pick up a fishing buddy from here

just a thought, ,I know stuff

Try true.
@Rapchizzle what do you think? Send me a private message if you’re interested. The only real issue I think is that the courtesy lights stay on whether switch on or not and the fishfinder is wired directly to battery not to an ACC switch so when battery switch turns on the garmin comes on.

I’ve seen waaaaay worse. That’s not terrible at all. I guess, what exactly are you trying to accomplish? Is the end goal all new wiring or new wiring plus labels or are you just wanting a cleaner look? New bends and zipties make it feel and look really nice.

At the least, I would cut off any corroded connectors and replace with new, adding dielectric where needed, replace all the diatro blocks, reroute/address service loops and cable runs, and so on. Cable maintenance is subjective. Some people like it surgical like a circuit board while others just like it tidy and put of the way. What’s the end goal?

And a picture of the outside of the switches would be nice too. Are they original?

The switch covers are new but the actual switches are not. I think one is shorting across the contact. Also some Wires are so tight they have come off the terminal like the horn on the breaker and a few negatives on the switches So I guess I would like the following…

  • New or cleaned up + and - distribution blocks
  • new terminations
  • new switches
  • remove abandoned wires and cables and clean up/zip tie wires where possible.
  • put chart plotter on acc switch

That’s not really a terribly difficult job, just time consuming for running new wires and chasing dead ones. Ricky’s guys may have more time to do it as I am on the water 6 days a week right now so time available would be my biggest struggle.

I hate when wires are too short so I always leave and extra 6-12” coiled up for future repairs as needed. Just rewired my skiff and was disappointed with the factory job.

In other words… good luck… lol

I saw some really affordable switch panels for the 236 on ebay today. Not sure which ones you have or I’d post a link, but look on ebay and maybe save yourself or whoever a ton of work and make it easy to straighten stuff up.

Maybe…

Thanks EF. Your always a huge help man!!
