So i went out on a buddies boat with twin 99ish 225 Mercs. He held it WOT (5800 RPM’s) all day (5+ hours run time). I suggested that may not be good for the old engines… He said he wanted them to go BOOM! Said if they blow the insurance company will through some new engines on there.
I said i would rather not be offshore when this event took place, but was anxious to see the outcome.
Fuel burn was .5 mpg when we got back to the dock!!! Needless to say i was not excited to chip in on that fuel bill.
So will your insurance replace a blown up motor? I am pretty sure mine will not.
No, a boat insurance will not cover a blown outboard, and your car insurance will not cover your blown car engine. That is why I recommend that everyone read his policy. An insurance policy is not an engine warranty. I’m glad you asked this because that’s not an uncommon misconception.

What he said. And the “old sucked up a plastic bag and cut off water to the motor” cause…naw…not a really plausible cause of loss.
