It was this same week last year the we left Broad Creek heading for the southledge that we caught 13 blackfin and bent a rod on my starboard engine 85 miles from Hilton Head on the way back in. So there was not question in my mind that if this week had decent weather, we were running out to defy the bad $10,000 dollar boat trip the previous year.
The ride out wasn’t too bad, and we had the lines in by 5:30am. We took two shots right off the bat, but since we were not on a charter, fun fishing, I did not have my usual mate working, so we ended up missing them…
Later in the day we were able to land a couple nice wahoo with a couple more wahoo cut offs. The tuna bite was slow, we ended up taking about 5 shots, but again, angler error left us with zero tuna on the boat.
The water temperature was 72 degrees, but the only other fish caught out there that day were two other blackfin one being a football before we left around noon.
It was a nice day with a fun crew where we ended up with plenty of tasty wahoo meat.
