Left a little after midnight Wednesday night to make the 85 mile for the southledge so we could have lines in the water and fishing by 5:30. The water temp there was a cold 66 degrees. We doubled up about 15 minutes into fishing with a couple nice blackfin.
Then it took a while to put the next few in the boat. Throughout the day we caught too many bobos and bonitas. Probably about 8 and 10 respectively. Also, we got cut off about 9 or 10 times by the wahoo. The boys in the cockpit had plenty to do rigging the break offs and fighting the trash…
We decided to switch to steel but only got cut off on on the flouro we left in the water. We decided to re-rig again and managed to put another tuna in the box while missing one behind the boat due to locking down the drag too tightly. Oh yeah, we also boated a couple slinger/micro dolphin before the day was over.
Here is what we kept for ourselves:
Here’s John with the booby prize, he fought her hard to get it, so we traded her for a free boatwash with some guys at the dock.
The ocean was beautiful and the crew was fun. We had a good time, but would have prefered to get some more tuna and wahoo.
Thanks… the boatwash thing was hilarious. One of the guys on the trip insisted that we keep it, and when we arrived there were two guys standing there waiting for the AJ.[:I]
Amberjack as currency… that is good stuff right there… anyone here like amberjack and can cut the grass? If so, we are about to start a wonderful relationship…
