Over the weekend was anchored up at a creek mouth doin a little fishing with some buddies. See a boat comin down the creek and they stop and check a crab trap… Ok cool checking his traps. We continue fishing and he starts heading our way… Ok there is a trap on our side too… No bigggy. Nope not checking the trap, pulls up to us “hey you got any bait I can buy from you?”… Well we didn’t and he left… Also appeared to be a guide possibly.
Def threw us for a loop. Interesting…

I saw a guy in olive green jon boat and tiller Merc on Sunday running the bank on the Stono. I thought it was odd that he was running so close to the bank. I passed him and when I looked back he had pulled off into a creek and was pulling the first commercial trap he got to. No markings were on the boat and the float was not yellow so he was probably poaching. Next time the camera will be out.

get the hull ID and call the game wardens…that is the same as taking cash out of his pocket. This has been the worst crab season I can recall, and these guys are hurting.

Were they trying to intimidate you by asking if you had any bait?
If you have the pic and they can readily identify will they prosecute ? I have run into that a time or 2 and next time will be prepared!

And I had an interesting exchange with a boat out at the jetties the other day, this guy pulls up to me and asks If I have any TACKLE, apparently he decided to drop his entire tackle bag/box overboard. I hooked him up(see what I did there) with hooks and swivels and off he went.
