Interesting Friday

Finally rounded up a crew that included an employee that I forced into taking a day off. I am currently accepting applications for new fishin’ buddies. Left the dock just before 4:00 yesterday and waited out a little cell that looked as if it was right over the jettys. This was a bad omen for the day ahead of us I guess… We eventually cleared the Jettys and ran south for the 1st time this year. After 4 hours we starting getting lines out in 350’ 8 miles from 226 and before the 3rd line is in, outrigger should have started screaming, but the clicker was off! It took a while to get him in since he took quite a bit of line while no one was paying attention, but managed to put 35lb Bull in the box. Started to redeploy lines and boom another strike. This was a 15lb cow. Had I known what the future had in store, I would have headed home right then and there. Next we trolled out to 226 with no action. Joined a few sporties that had passed us earlier that morning, and worked a temp break…nothing. Decided to head back to where we had early results and got a few more strikes. 2 spit hooks, and something big that nearly spooled this new 4/0 Avet I recently acquired, ended up breaking the 40lb mono at the roller tip. That line popped back and left a mark. After I finished yelling and cussing, we pulled lines and decided to head on in. We came back in the same slop, but following us and managed twice the speed coming home. Here is the best part of the story, we get to the harbor and see this storm developing, caled a few people on land and they said looked like it would pass soon, so we waited… and it got worse and we waited… and it got worse and we waited and it started coming towards us. There was a lot of lightning and I hope they didn’t mind, but we ducked into Noaa’s little cove/canal and tied up to there floating dock and ran up to some closed offices and hung out under some shelter and waited it out. Glad we did, cause I would not have wanted to be in the slop that ensued. Luckily it blew past pretty quick and

A safe day is a great day.

Chris- Can I apply? I like you better than my new fishing buddies too. Glad ya’ll are back safe.
