Going to build interior cabinets for the houseboat aka mothership. Is there a common wood in the boat industry that they use, I have noticed it on a friends 30 Wellcraft and on another friends 61 Viking , it looks familuar, actually on a lot of boats so I feel it must be very common to the industry.
It looks very furniture grade and appears to have a thick shiney layer of varnish on top, it is not Teak. Hopefully it is in plywood form and is on the light weight side.
It may be a composite of some type.
Thanks.
its normally cherry veneer, on the Viking(if its a late model) it will be a veneer over klegecell or a simular composite. On most boats, it will be a veneer over a high quality cabinet grade plywood. The clear finish is usually urathane over clear epoxy. Soem boat manufacture just use a clear over stianed wood, lots of it, all sanded smooth and polished. Its not cheap, if you are interested in buying some sheets, cehck with Mark Bayne at Sea Island Boatworks, or Kirk at High & Dry Boat works. Both of them use a fare amount of this material
Thanks Spareparts, that will give me a start.
