I think I was using Albright knots, main line is 17-25lb suffix. I not worried about using shockleaders, my 12’ rods are anchor rods, just has a 6-8 oz spider weight with no bait.
Ya know, it must be nice living in Neverneverland. Remind me to come visit you, when I need a break from reality.
My other big rod I still have is a 12’ ocean master with a penn 4/0 hlw. I can cast it ok but much better with tsunami/spinner combo.
I use an Alberto which stays pretty compact for the most part. I think it’s similar to the Albright though. I’m going to have to sit down and learn the fg knot. A lot of buddies use it and tell me I’m silly for not knowing it
The FG, when done correctly, is the only way to go. Flows through guides like butter. Just make sure you pull it HARD before you clip leader tag end…really hard!
Not my best, 80lb braid, 50lb leader. The braid is a bit heavy, but it is tight.
I tie a version of that knot and finish it a little different because it’s easier for me and adding the finishing lock I know it can’t slip. I’ve pulled on my connection with my shark line harder than you will ever pull on a fish unless its jaws.
Interesting article.

I have always used an improved albright. Never had an issue.
FG seems a little cumbersome to me but, doing it at home with time, might give it a try. One the beach or boat, in a pinch, will probably stick with what I know.
