IOP dock big reds 5/23/12

Fished a dock on IOP yesterday afternoon and had 3 big hookups of 27" plus reds. Being stuck on my floating dock it was hard to get the fish out of the other pilings as they ran.

Had the first bite hit hard and run straight under the opposite dock. Pulled the hook out. 10 minutes later same place same hit, but this time I tightened the drag and quickly pulled him to open water. Fought’em in the canal for a minute then brought him to the dock, popped the line as I went down to grab him. Over 27" easily. Then 10 minutes later another hit, but harder than the other 2, wrapped me around a piling and popped the line.

That’s a good sign that these bigger reds are moving around now.

Talk about a lazy fish, these big boys hung out under the same dock all afternoon and would cruise out, hit the jig, and run back under.

I will ensure that my superiors rest easy with the knowledge that I am on the helm, no matter what the conditions - Surfman’s Creed, USCG

Must be democrat fish, just hanging around waiting for their handout. Can’t wait to get back down there, need to feel that tug on the line.

Sorry guys, this was actually me posting. I didn’t realize I was signed in to my dads acount. I wouldn’t want you to think that Ranger Rick doesn’t know how to get a big red up on the dock. That’s just my retarded self.:sunglasses:

Maybe a cane pole with 50 lb. test mono will solve the problem.

Mannnnnnn..... that sounds like fun!!! But, I'd suggest 'braid'.

If you are fishing around crusty piles or big oyster structure you have to be able to put the stop on the fish right at the set. I personally hate braid so, I stay away from that environment.

These were across the canal at another dock. Kind of hard to fling a Gulp 70’ with a cane pole and then work it off the bank. Now the big ones that hang under our dock that keeps hanging us up may work with that idea.

2 Days later, my dad landed both fish. They had shaken the jigs but still had the holes. Both were still sitting under the same dock. Ambushing the same bait.

We also figured out what was ambushing us under our dock and kept breaking us off on the piles. A 25" 7 poud Flounder!
