IOP fishing question

First let me say that if anyone is nice enough to respond, please assume that I know nothing when you respond. I take my family to IOP every summer in July. I always surf fish and have no problem catching little 1ft sharks all day long, but that is it. I want to take the boat out this year and catch something bigger, maybe in the ICW or somewhere very nearby. I don’t really care what I catch, I will be releasing it, I just want to have a good time and a good fight. My question is where do I go, what do I use (gear and bait), and when is the best time. I am not looking for any trade secrets or secret spots, just the general stuff. Again I know very very little about saltwater fishing.

I don’t EVER fish that way but it sounds like you need to get on some whiteing and maybe sharks… how big of gear do you have? Redfish can give you a run for you money for newbies here so whiting is a good option… hopefully that fishes by there can give him a spot or two…
