Fished behind iop for all of the incoming and beginning of outgoing. Lots of small sharks, 10 inch whiting, and a 15 inch trout. All caught on live mullet on the bottom.

Welcome to the forum cbeck, I can’t put a finger on what the other member here is saying but it sounds a bit scarcastic to me? Some should remember what their parents taught them and just say nothing if they don’t have anything good to say. Good report!

The only thing that strikes me as odd about the report is the whiting hitting a live mullet – never heard of that before! The trout and sharks I definitely believe. If I had to guess, something else killed and ate most of the mullet in order for the whiting to hit it. I’m no whiting expert, though.

Bingo ; Bryson , A 10" whiting would have a mouth no larger than a small sand flea, and for it to take a live mullet it would have to be
smaller than an aquarium guppy , and to have been fishing it off the bottom casts more doubt, sharks yes;;;trout yes;;;even a keeper
bragging mullet ““maybe”” more likely foul hoohed…
cbeck;; not to be sarcastic but with so many (newbies) looking for advice don’t want to mislead one into expecting to catch their target fish with an unlikely bait , and there are a lot of mullet fisherman out there!!!

I catch whiting quite often just off the bottom on finger mullet and mud minnows at my go to trout spot.
Like I said i’ll bow out and let others comment,I still stand by my statement minnows are not bait of choice for whiting.

Whiting are like sea bass…They eat bout anything.
First time in 10 years fishing here in the lowcountry I caught a bull whiting with a mud minnow a month ago in Shem Creek. The minnow couldn’t fit in its mouth but the circle hook did. I was really surprised by it.
I catch whiting on grubs. Two last week on the morning glory.Had a 2 pound whiting eat a finger mullet.Crab cut up a finger mullet and anything will take it.

Gail wins. It’s all good. I’ve been fishing my entire life and I would normal agree with what you’re saying but there it was. I’ve caught lots of whiting since I’ve lived here and that was a first of me. Now if I could only convince some reds to eat mullet I’d be all set.

I will leave my 2¢ in it. Yes whiting will hit mullet. Some of my whitings I caught Sunday past was on mullet. So yes its possible. Look at my inshore post.
