You can. No glass and alcohol must be consumed from a plastic cup. Beer must be poured from a can.
just to clarify, you must drink all alcohol out of a cup, no cans…and no glass PERIOD on the beach…

I thought it was illegal to have alcohol on the beach. People just try to hide it with plastic cups.

Folly is great, just put in a cup (and pour out before leaving the beach). If you park along a street, make sure you park in the same direction as traffic flow, and tires must be off the pavement. Otherwise, you will me making a financial contribution to Folly Beach!
Set your Radio to 1610 AM when near Folly. Some interesting stuff is shared, including the local laws about dogs, beach drinking, parking, blah blah.
Cans are absolutely legal on Folly Beach, even when full of beer or any other legal drink. Only glass is illegal. Only alcohol restriction is for operators of PWC (not allowed). State laws still apply, of course.
Don’t take my word for it (cause I can’t get you out of a ticket).

From JimIslander’s Link:
(C) No person shall possess an open container of an alcoholic beverage on the streets, beach or other public place, with the exception that alcoholic beverages are allowed on the beach in paper or plastic cups. Any cans must remain in the cooler at all times provided cans may be removed briefly for the purpose of transferring the contents to a paper or plastic cup.
Cans ok, glass not mentioned. PUT IT IN A CUP!
