Is it the spelling...or is it the people...

BTW, it should be "What’s really amazing is a group of old dudes with nothing better to do THAN (not then grasshopper) talk about my spelling. Your grave just keeps getting deeper. When you are older, hopefully you will understand.

Not cessenarily. The “hopefully” is part of the clause “hopefully you will understand”.

If you place the comma on both sides of the word “hopefully”, as an appositive, then you have an ambiguous sentence. The reader can’t tell if you’re hopeful that they will be older when they understand, or if you’re hopeful that they will understand when they are older.

At the very least, did you watch the Weird Al video? And at the very least, do you not at least enjoy a little grammar nazi fun? It’s not like any of us are actually grammatically perfect.

Geez, you an English teacher? No wonder you don’t catch fish. Put the books down once and while. More like Nofish_Matt

Hey MT2, I have a job for you as a mate throwing the cast net. Are you interested? You have exactly the knowledge and skill set I am looking for.

No, but I’m not far from it. I’m not a real grammar nazi, I just play one on the internet.

And you’re right about the nofish_Matt part, so I can’t argue with you there.

I will be in Myrtle Beach weekend after next. I will look up our young Zack and invite him to the surf. And after this “old dude” shows him how it’s done, I will contact his english teacher and get the hole truth.

I always did pretty well in school with history, math, science, chemistry, physics, shop, electronics and spelling. I never could figure out where to put those dang commas, colons, semi-colons, hyphens and such though. Still can’t

Correct. “Advice” is a noun and “advise” is a verb. You can give “advice”, but the act of giving it is to “advise”.

I wouldn’t go there. I catch the **** out of fish all over the Southeastern Untied States and have enough pics to fill up page after page on this thread. Moreover, there are people that responded to this tread that catch way more fish than I. Here are a few pics for you.

Jimmy, you mean you missed MT2’s pics of the 10 and 14 pound flounder? None of us old dudes can compete with that!

That 14 pound Flounder was a real monster!!!

This is awesome. You guys continue to argue with my boy. Way to stir the pot son. Who wants to take us off shore out of MI, Little river or Gtown? You can have your opportunity to out fish him and I’ll even throw in on gas and supplies. I took him on a 12 hr offshore trip when he was 7 and he got sick as hell. He was a man tho, just said, " dad, you fish and I’ll be down below". I think he’s ready for another try but I can only go so far in the 19ft skiff, and I don’t really enjoy the big charter boats.

Just think this one post is making MT2 a senior member. lol

EVERYTHING HAPPENS FOR A REASON !!!

This thread is, at the same time, sad and funny.

The number of r?sum?s from college graduates that come through with significant rudimentary grammar and spelling errors is sad. I don’t think most young people have any idea how quickly their r?sum? slides to the end of the pile, or out of the pile, when they prove in a formal, allegedly carefully crafted document, that they don’t know how to write. The ability to write clearly, concisely, and accurately is fundamental to nearly any job above burger flipper.

In this thread, we have people defending what is a growing and expensive problem. We send our kids to school for something like 1000 hours of instruction per year and we still have to teach them to write when we get them in the office. Really disappointing. 12000 hours of instruction through high school and this situation is getting worse, instead of better. That system is fundamentally broken… but, that’s another soap box.
