Is Jack plate needed in Charleston?

Hey guys,

I am having a skiff built now…(Bossman Tailspotter) and it comes standard with a Atlas Micro jack plate. I know it would be handy down in Florida where they run a long way in the flats. However, where I mostly fish, I will either be using the trolling motor or a pole in the flats. The Atlas Micro weighs around 25 pounds. I will already have the additional weight of 2 light weight power poles on the back (about 30lbs for both on the stern… another 20lbs in back compartment for pumps).

My question is… would you keep the jack plate at no additional cost or have them not put it on to save weight (draft)? The motor is a Suzuki 60 which is the lightest weight 4 stroke on the market at 229 pounds.

Thanks for all your help.

Joe

I would go with the jack plate. It will allow you to fine tune the engine height for best efficiency and the set back allows the motor to be mounted higher, again more efficient. The 25 lbs is negligible.

Nice boat BTW:sunglasses:

X2, install it. The weight is nothing, will let the motor run better, and will let you jack the motor up, drop the tabs down and get on plane in shallow water if need be.

Thanks Guys. I will keep the jack plate. Then I can prop it for more speed and not worry as much about hole shot.
