is Sol Legare too choppy for old men

My grandpa is renting a house out of Kiawah. I’d like to launch at Sol Legare to scoop him up and cruise around. How is the run across Sol Legare to the Kiawah River? Reason I’m asking is that I hear it can be a nasty chop. I know about the sandbar across from the landing. I suppose as long as we have typical winds 5-10mph it shouldnt be bad? I run a 17’ bayboat, just worried about getting a beating with my grandpa in the boat.

if the current is running opposite of the wind it can stack up in the Stono…also be careful at the floating dock at the landing…they don’t have any protection from the raw aluminum along the edges of where the piles go thru them, which are offset from the dock itself…kinda difficult to explain, but when you see it you’ll understand…

Plenty of opportunities in Kiawah River

The wind and tide is true but it also matters the tide. Smaller tidal coefficients and your usually fine but if there is a big tidal coefficients and an outgoing tide it can be bad even with no wind. The outgoing is always much worse than the incoming.

Put in at Rockville and pick him up at Bohicket; much easier even though its a ride out there.

What kind of boat is it ?

17’ Mako //90hp Mercury
16’ Alumacraft // 20hp Yamaha
14’ War Eagle // 9.8hp Tohatsu
17’ Key West // 90hp Yamaha

You’ll be fine, that’s a big heavy boat. I had one when they first came out,got rid of it because it wouldn’t go shallow enough.

I’d be more worried about the shallow parts of the Kiawah than that short segment between Sol Lagare and the Kiawah. No problem there.

The kiawah river can get choppy on an outgoing tide and a strong wind. Or at least in my 16’ whaler.

Anything that pulls drag, right?
