Is there a local rod builder?

I have an old fishing rod that I want to have refinished for my dad. Is there someone local I can take it to?

Take it to Steve at Haddrells in Mount Pleasant. He does really good work. Just had him re wrap several rod guides that had broken off of my loomis rods. Quality is top notch.

Will do. Thanks.

I have a guy that used to work for me that does it on the side. He does a really great job. He uses only quality components and he can wrap just about any design you want into the rod. He does a much better job and is priced better than haddrells. Call him, his name is brad 828-552-2438 tell him that jeff referred you to him.

What makes his work so much better than Steve's at Haddrells? I was extremely satisfied with what he did for me. Re wrapping guides that had come off at I think around $10 each. How much cheaper does that need to be? Personally I would rather have someone that works on rods and reels all day do my work then someone that "does it on the side" as you say.

Support Haddrells and local shops.

Maybe i should rephrase it, as i can see how " on the side" sounds because he actually does it everyday as well, except a day or so when he goes fishing. He puts in a full day of work for his day job 5 days a week and builds/repairs rods after his 8-5 into the evening and on the weekends.

I dont think you can get more local than supporting a guy that has reached a point in his life where he is attempting to make something out of a passion he has been practicing/perfecting for 35+ years.

I was originally skeptical of what he could do when he first told me he repaired/ built custom rods until he brought in some of the custom rods he made. The designs he can wrap/thread in are quite impressive as well as the overall quality of his work.

Captfritz, you should reach out to him about getting some rods as he is willing to just give some or custom make some for some guides to try out and get his name out there. I will be taking some to some guides i know down in key west in november that have been wanting to try them.

I’ll stick with my GLOOMIS rods. Thanks though. And you could have just pushed your buddy without bashing Haddrells over their quality of work and price. No need for stuff like that.

If the man he is talking about is Brad H., he is local and does excellent work. You won’t be disappointed.

Indy, you are correct he is brad h.

Didnt mean too bash haddrells and rereading my original post it definitely did. I use them quite often for bait, tackle and whatever else i need when get on the water.
