I would say yes it appears to be a small tarpon. A very unusual catch for around here. It happens but rare
Thanks for the reply. I’ve caught a dozen or so of these in long branch creek this fall and always thought they were lady fish (until I caught a real lady fish and realized it was something different). Clearly, I’m a beginner at this inshore salt stuff being from the upstate.

Thats a tarpon, largest herring there is. you’ve found a hatching hole.
No matter how many variables I have control over, I never expect a bite. I only hope.
