yeah acapulco and Isle Mujeres are about 1000 miles apart. While I dont intend to go to Mexico anytime soon, I know many folks who continue to fish there and havent heard of the violence being an issue there.
Isla Mujeres is a small isolated island just offshore of Cancun. The government probably protects Cancun since it’s a huge tourism generator. The island has ferries that go to and from the main land. If you commit a crime over there, it’s a 7knt run from the cops. Not a good place to start your criminal career. Anyway, the island is pretty safe.

I’ve been to Isla Mujeres several times in the last few years. I feel safe when there, to the extent that I would bring my wife and daughter and feel OK. Ive worked in NYC for 25 years and can’t say the same about that city. There are risks every where you travel. Being situationally aware counts for a lot. I will give a full report at end of March, after hopefully catching 1000 sails in Isla.

was just in cozumel, and saw no heads rolling around. i asked some of the locals about the cartels and they said there is no presence of the cartels on the islands off the yucatan. was there for a week, over the new year, and felt very safe. great diving, bad fishing.
Have fished Isla Mejero’s, Cancun great time, however I have removed Mexico from my travel destination years ago as that is a corrupt country that screws over my country on so many levels, of course this is made possible by our SPINELESS politicians.
My nephews Lexington high school senior trip were shook down by the local police, yeah a lot of things go unreportd down there as it is big business and American continue to visit as it is cheap.I like the Keys and keep the money in the USA.
Isla is safe as far as I’m concerned. Some folks like the OP might be scared off, but some folks are just that way. My philosophy is you can’t live your life cringing like a little ***** all the time!
