Islamorada 12/29

Fished with Capt George on “The Reel McCoy” out of Bud and Marys…
Me, HOLT ON, one of the extreme loggers from the discovery channel and and a few others. Went 3 for 6 on sails, pitching live ballyhoo and pilchards. It was a first for me to sight fish for sails…put it on your to-do list if you have never fished the keys this time of year.

Nice report! Did you boys learn enough that we can do this ourselves next year? Need to take the HOLT ON down and catch em up.

Did you keep the sails? Reason I ask is most will fly the flags upside down when the fish is released.

Good trip!

Reputation is what people have come to think of you.
Character is the way you act when no one is around.

We almost took the john boat back out there the next day…even if we dont catch a fish we should atleast go and stock up on ballys next year. It was sick the amount of bait that we caught that morning. The mate said that upside down flags were old school and nobody keeps a sail anymore…

Just got back from Islamorada also. Fished out of snake creek for 5 days. Caught a lot of fish but more importantly learned a lot more. We ran out 15 min caught bait then moved the boat a half mile over to the edge of the reef to catch sails. AWESOME! spent a lot of time working on technique with kites and circle hooks and the whole process with live baiting. I highly recomend a trip down there for the 20’-35’ trailerable crowd. You can work on refining methods in blue water in as little as 5 miles from shore with a reef right on the edge. It was incredible. We left the boat down there for the next two months. Plan on going back asap.
