Islamorada Offshore Charter Review

So it has been about two weeks since I took the trip, but I must say I had an excellent time and would highly recommend the Captain.

He and the mate put a full effort into making it an enjoyable day on the water. I have in the past with other trips and captains seen complacency get the better half of a trip.

The boat is the F/V Miller Time out of Whale Harbor Marina, captain Ron Moore. He has been running charters for over 12 years and his mate Alan has been with him for 8 of them. They are a class act! The captain isn’t a screamer and the mate is on point from throwing the lines to go out to pulling back up to the dock.

If you can recall the boat F/V Mojo that fished out of Charleston, it is that boat.

Unfortunately, the sailfish bite had tapered off before we got there and we didn’t want to waste time. So we trolled, deep dropped, and reefed fished for Yellow tail snapper. Had a great day on the water!

What they call “choppy” is like coming into the jetties on an outgoing tide. Nothing anyone who spent time on the ocean hasn’t seen or would pass on to go fishing (unless the age is catching up to you).

The only thing I would suggest to anyone going to go take a charter down in the Keys around a Full Moon, is to pack some sabiki rigs and some light spin tackle, the tide isn’t hard but those guys like to catch live bait to fish with…which you can end up spending a little too much time if the bait has had all night to feed on.

And as much I wondered about daytime swordfishing, it isn’t the big rage there, like I was expecting. Kinda of shocked.

So if you plan on fishing down near Islamorada and need a charter, check out the FV Miller Time http://www.fishingchartersislamorada.com/.

Going down there next week. Taking my family and would like to charter a reef or bottom trip. Did you catch a lot? Are yellow tails good eating? We mainly inshore fish and freshwater fish here. We just love to fish and we love to eat them also. Thanks for posting.

Everything we went after was superb as far as table fare. Just let him know in advance that you want to meat fish and a normal full day. Tell him you want to do what that “guys from Charleston did.” Tuna fish in the am, deep dropped and then yellow tailed on the way in for the day.

You will troll out and in.

There are some restaurants down there that will also cook your catch for about 16 a person you bring the fish.

Tilefish is to die for…so don’t fret grouper season isn’t open, cause you can get your fill on Tilefish and your are allowed one snowy grouper per boat. Tilefish can sell more per lb than grouper can and is sought after as high end seafood. Yellowtail is great as well. Porgy is great as well.

He and his mate will take care of you, I have seen it and firmly vouch for him. We had the most fish out of all the boats when got back to the dock that day.

It is a beautiful boat and money well spent.

We fished Sunday with Captain Raymond on Gold digger. We ended up with 21 dolphin. We lost several triple tails. We had a blast. I was told by several local Captains that the BnM is the boat to book for daytime swordfishing. This place is absolutely beautiful.
