Was in Islamorada last Thursday and took a trip with Capt. Mark Johnson of Tailspin Fishing Charters. Mark put me on my first group of tarpon within 5 minutes of cutting the motor. The group was probably 100 fish strong, riding high and happy. My first cast ever to a tarpon resulted in a hook up. I was throwing a 10 wt with a yellow toad fly. Before I knew it, the fish was into backing and making jumps. 30-45 minutes later I had the thing boatside. Estimated 90 lbs. I doubt the one fish - one cast will hold up, but it sure was fun.
