After a few returned emails I had no luck obtaining a charter, I was trying to get a good deal on smaller center console trip since the sportfisher trips are nuts due to gas prices and I didnt want to end up fishing with a bunch of strangers. We happen to cruise by a marina and my wife sees a boat and decides that its the one. It was pretty late but we decided to give it a shot and call the captain to see if he had any spots in the AM. My wife calls and get him on the first ring, he has room. He is also taking out his wife and a friend, one other couple, and now us. so we get to split 3 ways and save a ton of $. It gets even better, his wife and friend arent even fishing, and the girl in the other couple decided it was a bit too much and wasnt going to fish either, so we have the sportfisher rolling with only three anglers that are actually fishing. The others would come out every now and then to grab a fish or have a look. Plenty of room to fish, no crowding, etc, very nice. The capt was also a local tourney winner a few times over. It gets even cooler, the mate on the boat notices my wife’s clemson hat and commented on it, turns out this guy is actually from the chs area. He grew up at IOP and actually had his own charter for awhile and now was living in the keys running a few boats and mating. we actually knew some of the same people. It was like fishing with an old friend. its was one of those ‘small world’ things. His name is Spencer, some of yall probably know him. The fishing was great, we trolled a bit and did alot of sight fishing, ended the day with 23 keepers and probably released that many as well.
Heres a few shots, along with some randoms around town. Some neighbors of mine were also around so we were able to get out with them as well for some snorkle trips. Heading to some of the reefs to snorkle on our own was pretty awesome. I cant wait to go back.
