Islamorada Trip

Went to islamorada this weekend and had a great time. Took charter Saturday and it was one of the best fishing experience of my life. We ended up with 5 kings, 2 bonita, 2 sharks, and a 300lb Goliath (jewfish) grouper. Of course we threw back the sharks and jewfish. We took blue heaven charter with capt. Skye Stanley and boy can this man catch some fish. Heres a video we took with a friends go pro of some brief parts of the trip. Oh, also one of the kings was taken by a mako before we got it in. Comparing what was left of the head it looked like the biggest one. guess you win some and loose some. Great trip overall!

EDIT: Was tired last night so wasn’t completely full on info. We went out of Robbie’s marina with Blue Heaven charters captained by Skye Stanley. It’s a 32 regulator with twin 250’s. We started off probably about 2 miles out. After that we headed away from the other boats to about 2 1/2 miles and anchored. After that it was fish on for the rest of the day. We went 5 for 8 on kings, 2 for 2 on the bonitas, and the Jew fish took 4 tries I think before we hooked him and could bring him up.

A Mako? How deep were you when the king got bit up? How deep was the Jewfish? Were you able to revive it?

They said it was either a tiger or a mako, but when we got to dock they looked at the way the bite marks were, something about the way the teeth were set up and the type of incision, which they said was a sign of a mako. The bite marks went over the kings eyes. But we were able to revive the Jew fish. Probably will catch it for this, but we pulled it aboard so we could pop the air bladder(which was inflated out his mouth) and he swam back down no problem. As for depth we caught the first mackerels in about 30’ but then moved out and fished in 150’ which still isn’t but a couple miles out. We caught the mackerel that got eaten and the Jew fish in the deep water

I’ve seen a Tiger mauling a sea turtle in about 30’ of water on the reef line down there but have yet to see a Mako. I’m on the water 5 days of the week and haven’t caught or seen one yet so I’m pleased to find out they’re in that close. Those Jewfish are pretty (**() impressive aren’t they?
