Isle of Palms Kayaking

A friend of mine is coming down to Isle of Palms tomorrow and since I got a kayak yesterday he said he would bring his. I am going to research all over the net as well, but do any of you have any suggestions of places to put a kayak in the water in or near Isle of Palms? I’m not yet strong enough to get past the breakers. Thanks in advance!

You can put out at the IOP marina, bring a google map. Head out near goat island and you can paddle down to the seven reaches canals. Very scenic and fun fishing. We had luck with non bottom sinking rigs like a light Carolina rig or a spitter weight rig with cut bait. We tried a double bottom and were consistently catching sharks and blue fish. You can also go near the island at high tide and fish the flats. You’ll see the reds tailing and can try to get them with a top water lure.

Station 26 on Sullivans Island (River Side) is a great Kayak launch (And Free!) Iop is nice, but you will have to pay to play there!

IOP marina is a great place. They charge $5.00 for parking unless you have a trailer, then it is $10.00 There are cleaning stations on the docks for the fish as well. You can paddle up in the marina and the condos and fish the docks. Reds are great on the incoming tide. You can follow it up into the marshes and there are several creeks that are good for trout, black drum etc. Out on the ICW, the docks generally hold reds and trout.

The fishing trip got cancelled. My friend was only bringing a couple of people with him and then a couple more joined the group. He won’t have enough room for all his gear, so we will be doing the trip later on. Thanks so much for the advice! I will probably go fishing tomorrow anyway. I have no idea where.

Lots of people put their kayaks in at Paradise Landing. That’s north of Mt Pleasant on Hwy 17. It’ll be on your left after you past the last traffic light about 2 miles. It’s a perfect place for yak’rs. Boats typically don’t venture up there because it can be shallow in places.

Another place to try is Gillisonville Road Landing. I’ve never used it but it’s an access to the ICW and Coppahee Sound. Time the wind and tides right and you could paddle to Dewees or Capers…if you’ve got the stamina.

Both places are free.

Prolly right. Aren’t they kinda close by? I could be wrong, or mistaken.

Yep, its Gadsdenville Road. And do watch the tides or you’ll be mud stompin’.
