he made it through the first encounter with someone. not so much the second time with me. Yall please be mindful of what fish you stick and where!
I know some just stab whatever when gigging, but I’ve been poling across deeper water to another bar before and stuck a few. Thankfully all but 2 were keepers. They are usually in the body like this one. It’s either awesome or a bummer when it happens!
Is this a joke?

Im all for people making a living and all that, and I dont mean to offend anyone but this is a classic example of why gigging should be regulated more before they come after the “rod and reel” guys… Is goozeman admitting to sticking 2 short fish!? That cant be though!! People don’t make mistakes, or stick short fish… I have never understood how its legal to gig for a redfish that has a slot limit… “oops he’s too big, throw him back over before we get caught!”

Chasintail, i think goozeman meant he accidentally stuck a flounder with his pole while using it for propulsion purposes. Regardless, i find it hard to believe mistakes aren’t made occasionally as well.
Ahhhh here we go. What exactly does gigging have to rod and reel guys?
Aahh I see, thanks for clarifying that millacd. Flyinghigh from my perspective quite a bit… I see pictures all the time of boat decks covered in flounder… I’m not saying that its impossible to catch 10-20 flounder on rod and reel but its certainly more common in the gigging world. I’m not trying to bash people that gig either, I have a lot of respect for the ppl that are good at it BC it does require a lot of skill and knowledge. It just raises the questions of how many “miss hits” and illegal fish get killed from gig poles… The fish doesn’t have a fighting chance IMO…

Its been a while since I’ve gigged but don’t understand how people hit undersized fish. Its not that hard to guess the size of the fish and quite easy to decide to aim for anything that is a few inches longer than the minimum to be safe.
I get that’s its difficult to gauge the size of reds since they move faster and have an actual slot to fit in but the only undersized flounder that should be stuck is an accidental hit by the pushpole(gig) not that I think anyone even pushes a boat anymore.

im not sure if I want to stick my nose into this but (lol) I don’t see the sport in sticking a fish with a stick. its like sitting in a tree for a deer to walk by. but who am I to say. have a great day.

So going out and HUNTING for a fish is the same as sitting in a tree and waiting for it to come to you?
Sorry, I’m not really a bright guy, but they seem to be the exact OPPOSITE.
Sitting in a tree and waiting for a deer is like sitting in a boat and waiting for a fish to bite your line.
No matter how you gig…you’re out finding the fish. Whether poling along looking for them from a boat, or walking the beach looking for them, you’re actively hunting them.

Hey Sniper, how many times do you gig or take someone gigging in a year?

Its actually a ton of fun. Things are active at night and you get to see all the sea creatures up close.

How many deer get wounded from poor shots and later die? Probably more than flounder.

Again, I’m all for people making a living… However, if someone runs a charter gigging business I’d have to imagine that more times than not there is a rookie or novice angler on the front of the boat. People that may not know the regs as well as or have the knowledge of a more experienced angler. From the outside looking in that’s where my problem lies with gigging, on a daily/weekly basis new people are learning the sport and with that comes mistakes… Just one mans opinion, please don’t get butt hurt…
