looks like he is about to pinch your watermark there
Great picture! I was hoping for warm dry weather this weekend but it looks like we might miss out. Too bad I have to work, today would have been amazing.

Which tube is that?
Wait, maybe not tube shot.
Never mind, just got to photo section.
Hey, you posted that same crab last year. I recognize him.

Looking at an inexpensive 3 pc. set from Vello, unless wife approves more better when I tell her, to use with my Nikkor 18-55mm 1:35-5.6G. Been wanting to do this, or get into star gazing, for a long time. May get an LED ring light as well.
I think the kenko set was $200, came with three different sizes and you can stack them easily.
If you want to save a few bucks and get the same effects, try a reversal ring. It’s like $20 and works with your existing lenses.
All manual operation of course. Canon makes a nice ring flash, but it’s quite expensive. Like $800, and I’m not sure how much I’ll really use it. I’ve done everything with natural light so far. Looking at the knockoff version for like $300 cheaper.
This is the flash I want:

Nikon reversal ring… Verify your lens size though.

Nice light, that’ll put you in CSI mode. I like the tubes for AF, thanks for the info.

There’s a hefty learning curve to them, but now that I kinda have it figured out, I can more easily predict what my images will look like. Lighting is key, like all photography. The smaller the aperature, the better so you can try to get more in focus. DOF is touchy using tubes, but worth the effort when you get an image that stands out. So, the larger the f stop, the more light you’ll need whether it’s natural or flash.
Then there’s software too. Focus stacking is a great technique if you use tubes and have PS or Lightroom or something equivilant.

Water temps are coming up.
I am so ready to shave off my beard and throw some topwater.
I hope it stays warm.

Ha! www.DidTheFiddlerCrabSeeHisShadow.com is available! If I had a little bit more spare time this week I would buy it and get it set up.

Just make sure to give me a cut of the money!! I bet it would get pretty popular…would just have to think of a clever name for the fiddler crab!
