Yep! That guy will think twice about doing that again! Did he do a stutter step and get a duh look on his face before he turned around. What ever happened, you saved yourself a lot of heartburn. You know someone was going to yell for you to be arrested even though you probably had lots of witnesses. Glad it turned out they way it did and you didn’t have to shoot the dumb azz! Imagine his rage, having to wait for 1 minute[:0]That brings up a question? This guy was coming at you with a weapon! If you just showed him your gun in hand, could you then get arrested for brandishing?

oh yea, he stopped and kind of stumbled as he turned around. Did not hold it up for him to see really, just made sure when i took it out of the glove box it was visible to him. its s stainless ruger 357 so its pretty easy to identify. he was coming from my rear quarter and had a great view into my car. Although i am prepared to pull the trigger if need be, i am so glad i didn’t have to.

So what would you have done, enlightened one? You’re the ultimate armchair quarterback…

A study by the University of Pennsylvania looked at 700 shootings. The results were quite surprising. According to the peer reviewed study in the American Journal of Public Health if you carry a firearm you are 5 times more likely to get shot and 4 times more likely to get killed.

OFM! Without reading the article, I would say that it was because the person with the gun didn’t shoot the SOB soon enough! Hesitation will get you killed! Remember the 21 foot rule!

I read the case. It’s a straw-man argument. In the findings, they clearly state that, “the shooting case participants were more frequently working in high-risk occupations, less educated, and had a greater frequency of prior arrest. At the time of shooting, case participants were also significantly more often involved with alcohol and drugs. Case participants were also more likely to be located in areas with less income and more illicit drug trafficking.”

This case is not an accurate snapshot of the subset of American gun owners we’re talking about. If anything, this case makes a very clear argument that guns and alcohol/drugs don’t mix. The control group is so completely different than the studied group that it’s not representative. There’s another article in that same journal called “Flaws in Study of Firearm Possession and Risk for Gun Assault” that addresses many of these flaws.

Most “studies” begin with a pre-planned agenda in mind. This one was most assuredly to show how bad/dangerous guns are. Studies, like statistics can be manipulated to arrived at the desired outcome. Besides, anthing coming out of teh academic world these days is bound to have a liberal (anti-gun) bent.

You guys be sure not to drag your crap into bolbie’s fancy neighborhood. What a snob.

And get killed while you’re waiting for assistance? Liberals always want someone to do it for them; Conservatives wanna do it themselves.

the more ID the law has on someone, the quicker they can act and lock him up.I would file a complaint with the police, and a 911 call prior would make it a solid case.

what happens if he accidentally shoots the guy, then he has quite a bit of legal fees to deal with defending himself.a good lawyer will have a ball with a gun vs. stick fight.

the longer the guy is outside his car acting aggressive, the longer the public has to ID him as well.you never know,he could come back with a gun next time.

I understand your points. However, none of the hypothetical situations you’re describing are valid if Jimmy gets killed or badly hurt. If someone’s approaching me with a weapon intent on doing me harm, I’m not worried about legal fees, public ID or any of that other bull-jive. My #1 priority at that time is survival, and I’m gonna do whatever is necessary to ensure that it’s me , not the other guy, that lives to tell the tale.

“I’m not a hundred percent in love with your tone right now…”

that’s great, but it would be nice to know who that person was, in the event he comes back with a bigger gun…

board, club, splint,or something wooden? a little better description would be helpful.

Bart, that joint in your avatar, been there lately?last time I was there a few weeks ago, the q was dry as a chip with no seasoning, chicken was fried too long, and the mac n cheese wasn’t baked in a pan… it was Kraft instant.

The best part was they went up on price.I now eat at the pizza parlor across the tracks.

I’m in Charlotte, so I’m only able to get down to see Mrs. Gail and the gang sparingly. It’s probably been a couple of months, but it was as good as I remember at that time. A bad day of cooking for them is usually better than a good day of cooking at any other barbecue joint in my humble but accurate opinion. Sweatman’s in Eutawville is the only other place that’s even in the ballpark…

“I’m not a hundred percent in love with your tone right now…”

Ok bolbie. The reason i said splint is because it looked like two wooden rods attached on end with a rope. he was holding it by his leg keeping it somewhat concealed…Dang, i think i just figured out it was nun-chucks. Like you would put your foot or hand on the rope and use the two wooden pieces to stabilize a broken arm or leg. Im sure thats what is was now. Like i said, this all happened in a matter of seconds. Calling 911 is all wonderful but they would have had to respond in under 30 seconds, which aint going to happen. If a thugs threatens you w a deadly weapon call 911,you will likely be in the hospital. Ill keep my .357 handy and go fishing the next day. And i would never have accidentally shot the guy, if i shot him it would have been intentional.

Why has no one commented on Pippins’ post? Hmmm?
Jimmy, you did the right thing.

Umm, you gonna eat that?

Yes, and when seconds count, the police are only minutes away… You did the right thing. The only thing I think you should have done after was to call the police with this schmucks tag number, veh decription and his description and filed a report. Get what happend on record so it can’t be turned around on you later…

A bad day fishing is much better than a good day at work.
