It'll Do & All Rise Yellow Fin TUNA Jun 6-7 (PICS)

Been planning a yellow fin tuna trip to the other side … Of the Mississippi for about 6 months now. Crew was falling apart, work issues, vacations, I would rather charter fish, blah, blah, blah. My buddy Itll Do warned me up front that he may not make it but had a backup plan??

Well I got a phone call from Itll Do last Wednesday, Heading to Venice on Tuesday, bring Chunky and Heywood and come with my son and I! We will be fishing with your buddy Captain Scott Sullivan with the Mexican Gulf Fishing Company on his 39 Sea Vee! Uhh… Stand by. Jumped through some huge hoops with work and the wife. Called Chunky and Heywood, Chunky was out Heywood never hesitated. What time and where are we leaving from, I will be THERE!!

Got to Charleston Tuesday morning and off we went.

This is where we stopped and off to a late dinner outside of New Orleans. Captain Scott told us about this place:

Mom and Pop style Louisiana Cajun cooking. IT WAS GREAT!!

Made it to Venice in time to check out the catches for the day and talk game plan for the morning.

Wednesday, June 6

Captain Scott and Deck hand Peyton pulled right up to our house boat door in a new 39 Sea Vee at 5 am. Off to catch bait!

Stopped at a couple of rigs but could not find the yellow fin. Sharks, blue runners, etc but none of the elusive YFT.

Captain Scott was not phased, We will find them!.

Two more rigs not much going off to the 4th rig, we can see them busting on the water as we arrive, deploy the spread and it was on!

Itll Do and Wilson were working them over!

I jumped in o

Nice job. I’ll be there in 2 weeks, can’t wait.

Great Job! Thanks for sharing!

What an awesome trip!! We did fish hard day 1 to find the YFT bite and caught the 2 fish late in the afternoon with the exception of Wilson’s small YFT with the first cast of the day, too small to keep.

I spent a good portion of time running the Go Pro, so hopefully we can get the videos up soon. Had the heartbreak, videoing the tag and release of the last YFT and the battery died. I did not know it until I tried to turn the camera off, found the camera not on.

I will “ditto” Scoutin comments about the ARS, the bite was incredible and all the fish were around the same size. Just like BSB action!

Was told by Capt Scott, the Gulf has over 4,200 oil rigs, No wonder the fishery is outstanding. With so much structure offshore in every direction, there are so many choices. If the bite is not on, go to the next rig a few miles away.

If we had a few rigs / wind turbines off our coast, I am sure the fishing would be outstanding, but it may look like the Rockville Regatta tied up to them.

Can’t wait to go back!

Scoutin,

You forgot about this photo, compliments of Capt. Sullivan

stop with the pics. no one else will say it so I will…we hate you  nice fishing and catching

Awesome trip and pictures!

We brought 2-120 qts full of fish fillets and loins back home. We left some fish with a few friends in Venice and Captain and mate got a good size share. My vacuum sealer has been very active today. I might have a little extra.

Very, very cool guys. Congrats on an awesome trip. Its my goal within the next year to get down there for the exact same trip. You may be getting some PMs from me here in the near future!

Do not tell fish stories where the people know you; but particularly, don’t tell them where they know the fish.

think you made the right call on hauling the boat down, the fuel burn would almost pay for the charter and you can’t beat fishing with capt scott! I know it was fun. need to come dive while the viz is 100+ft. some fish killing going on like I have never seen, yellabird agrees.

If it got any better I couldn’t stand it.

As It’ll do mentioned Captain Scott told us to bring two 120 quart coolers. End of day two I was packing coolers while they were cleaning fish. Heywood brought over two bags and I looked over my shoulder to see only 3 more gallon bags sitting on the table. I told Heywood “Whoo this was close those last 3 and we are slam full!” He laughed “dude we have 5 more yellowfin to clean plus all the snapper!”

uh…

We tool all the black fin from day one out plus the dolphin and put it in a trash bag, gave captain and mate a HUGE helping of snapper and yellowfin.

Could not even fit it inside the van

We drove around the Marina like Santa Clause and gave tuna the inshore guys. They were jacked up to get it and offered to swap for redfish etc. Had to turn them down we were PACKED to limit!

LOTS of sushi to eat and share. But I PROMISE, none will go to waste.

Set the trap boys, we going to pass through them again!!
