time for the striper slaying on the lower lakes!! I can’t wait. I still need to get in touch with some people about the issue involving fishing around the dam!
Either way, I’m gonna fish, and hopefully catch!!

4JS,
I started doing pretty good last year around the end of October. I remember the hadens were pretty thick outside of the buoys by the hydro side of the dam. I would troll through the bait schools and usually get one or two strikes each pass. I use the MirrOlures (111MR) and the Stretch 25s/30s. I like to keep my speed around 2.8mph. Every now and then I might bump it in neutral for a few seconds, and then I put it back in gear. Sometimes that will get a good hard reaction strike. I also use a short wire leader due to the fact that I have lost way too many lures to the big old cats I have hooked. I have caught so many 40lb cats and up that will have the whole lure in its mouth. There have been nights that I have caught 30+ cats trolling around the dam. Some nights, it is best to troll right in front of the hydros, but “Homeland Security” will not allow that anymore because we are a threat. I still do not understand that one, but I would rather not get into that subject right now. I want to enjoy my evening! Anyway, when it is time, hit me up, and we will go and see what we can catch!!

Lynn, I sure would like to make the trip to Santee from Bluffton and fish with some of you striper experts this fall and winter. I have only bass and crappie fished on the upper lake around the State Park.

Lynn,
Do you have any luck during the daylight hours, or is this still a “night time” bit?
I may give you a holler as the time gets closer.
Thanks!
I’m sure that there are fish caught during the day. I like the night fishing myself. There are usually less boats (I’m usually the only one), and I feel the striper are stacked up better at night around the dam chasing the bait that is stacked up around the dam under the lights. I have been there early evening and early morning in plenty of light though, and I have caught fish.

Lynn I posted this in the freshwater but I caught a bunch of 2-3lbers and 1 14lber catfishing down there this weekend. I wouldnt mind getting together with you on catching those Cats trolling maybe we can fish some this fall/winter.
I’ll bite and give a shout out of thanks again. I went trolling with Lynn last Christmas Eve. Started the morning out with a ticket for runnin a red light but… just as I was tellin Lynn man we been trollin an hour lets just drop some cut bait and catch some cats i just want to fight a fish. I aint been since July He says Ive caught plenty of cats trollin for strippers. I call BS BAM big cat hits that bottoms out the 30 pound boga. I knew what it was as soon as I picked the rod up. The very next past on the same lure caught another one bout the same size. I had to sit down and take a break right quick. We then proceeded to super secret spot number 365 and slayed the crappie when the sun came up.
Sounds like you guys hit 'em pretty good. Do you guys ever cast to schools of bait with bigger top water plugs? Used be the best and of course most exciting way we catch them up north. Would look for some bait fish and start ripping across them.
If anyone wants some company I’d more than happy to join you guys for some striper fishing. Would obviously through in for gas and bait.

I don’t believe that we got lucky with any of those that night. Must have been using the wrong bait!! [:0]
I’m sure we’ll get out there and catch a few this season, cats and stripers that is…
BTW Jazzed, LE said for you to lay out of work on Tuesday!!

That is fun for sure. Unfortunately, Lake Moultrie has not had the big schools of fish for a while. I have some small schools in the last few years, but not like it used to be. Of course, I’m usually out there after daylight hours, so I would miss most of the schooling action. You’re welcome anytime, I have a hard time finding a second to go most of the time anyway…
